Mechanical CAD design and manufacturing drawings

Mechanical CAD example

What we do

We deliver manufacturing-ready mechanical CAD: clean parametric models, robust assemblies and professional engineering drawings with GD&T (ISO / DIN / ASME). Each project comes with a supplier-friendly build pack so parts can be quoted and manufactured without guesswork.

Target outcomes

  • DFM and DFA built in from day one for injection moulding, machining and sheet metal.
  • Fewer fit issues through tolerance stack-ups and clear datum schemes.
  • Fast, low-risk design changes thanks to clean feature trees and configurations.
  • Complete drawing and BOM packages that suppliers actually use.

Services

  • Concept to CAD – envelopes, mechanisms, variants and fast 3D models for decisions.
  • Parametric parts and assemblies – plastics, sheet metal, machined, cast and welded components.
  • Engineering drawings and GD&T – ISO 1101 / ASME Y14.5, surface finishes and weld symbols (DIN EN ISO 2553).
  • DFM / DFA reviews – draft and wall thickness checks, ribs, tool access, bend radii and realistic CNC toolpaths.
  • Tolerance analysis – worst-case / RSS, 1D and 2D stacks, functional gauges and basic inspection plans.
  • ECAD–MCAD – PCB STEP / IDF imports, keep-out zones, connector access, sealing / EMC and cooling paths.
  • Reverse engineering – scan / mesh to NURBS / feature-based CAD and redraw of legacy parts.
  • Design automation – templates, design tables, macros and configurators.
  • PDM / PLM setup – part numbering, revisions, title blocks and release workflows.
  • Visualisation – renderings, exploded views and technical illustrations.

Your deliverables

  • Native CAD data (SolidWorks, NX, Creo, CATIA, Inventor, Onshape) plus neutral formats such as STEP, Parasolid and IGES.
  • Drawing package (PDF and DWG / DXF) with GD&T, surface specifications and notes in DE / EN on request.
  • BOM and assembly data – item numbers, materials, fasteners and supplier part numbers.
  • Manufacturing data – flat patterns, bend tables, draft checks and moulding notes.
  • Change log – revisions (ECN / ECR) and notes on model-tree hygiene.
  • Handover session – 45 to 90 minutes walkthrough with your team.

Technology stack

  • CAD: SolidWorks, Siemens NX, PTC Creo, CATIA V5, Inventor, Fusion 360, Onshape.
  • Materials: aluminium, steel, magnesium, titanium, ABS / PC / PA / PP / POM, elastomers and foams, composites.
  • Standards: ISO 1101 / 2768 / 5459, DIN, VDA; ASME Y14.5 where needed.
  • Data: STEP, Parasolid, IGES, STL / OBJ (reverse), CSV / JSON for BOM and PDM.

Engagement flow

  • Discovery (30 minutes) – requirements, manufacturing route and timeline.
  • Design plan – risk list, tolerance strategy, file conventions and milestones.
  • Model and drawing – iterative CAD with weekly drops and DFM checkpoints.
  • Validation – interference checks, tolerance stacks and light FEA where useful.
  • Release – drawing and BOM package, revision baseline and handover to suppliers.

What we need from you

  • Sketches or reference CAD, available envelope and interfaces, target processes and suppliers.
  • Material preferences and surface / brand rules (logos, label areas, IP ratings).
  • Company standards for title blocks, part numbers and revisions.
  • Success criteria such as cost, lead time, weight, stiffness, IP rating and similar.

Packages

  • CAD starter – up to 20 parts, drawings and BOM, plus a DFM review.
  • Pro build pack – up to 100 parts, tolerance stacks and supplier handover.
  • Automation and PDM – templates, macros / configurations and numbering and release workflows.

Example use cases

  • Electronics enclosure – snap-fit redesign, draft and rib optimisation, IP-capable sealing.
  • Sheet metal chassis – flat patterns, hems, PEM / rivet nuts and fastening strategy.
  • Machined bracket – weight reduction through pockets and tool-friendly radii.
  • Assembly standardisation – screw library and BOM clean-up for purchasing.

Data security and compliance

NDA by default, version-controlled storage and optional EU-based hosting. On request we mirror your PDM / PLM setup (SolidWorks PDM, Teamcenter, Windchill).

FAQ

Do we get fully editable models?
Yes. You receive clean feature trees, named sketches and no broken references.

Metric or imperial?
Both. For German projects we default to SI units and DIN / ISO standards.

Can you adopt our drawing template?
Send us your title block, fonts and layer scheme and we will match it exactly.

Is light FEA included?
Where it materially reduces geometry risk, yes – otherwise we can scope full FEA as an add-on.

Can you work with our PCB team?
Yes. We support STEP / IDF workflows, keep-outs and connector / service access together with your electronics engineers.
